The Celebretion of 3rd Graduation Ceremony at Ruli Higher Institute of Health

The celebration of 3rd graduation ceremony at Ruli Higher Institute of Health, Sainte Rose de Lima of 120 nursing graduands  

 

On Friday, 06/03/2020, Ruli Higher Institute of Health (RHIH) Sainte Rose de Lima carried a successful graduation ceremony where 120 nursing graduands become graduates with an award of Advanced Diploma in General Nursing.

The event was started by mass celebration by His Grace Mgr. KAMBANDA Antoine, Archbishop of Kigali Archdiocese and the Chancellor of RHIH.

Under moderation by the Master of ceremony, Mr. MWUMVANEZA Marcellin, the chairperson of RHIH council  named Father Donatien TWIZEYUMUREMYI constituted the graduation ceremony and after  Vice Chancellor of the institution Dr. Innocent DUSHIMIYIMANA (Fr.), provided the welcome speech and introduce  all  guests (Archbishop of Kigali Archdiocese:  His Grace Mgr. Antoine KAMBANDA,  Senator Prof. NIYOMUGABO Cyprien ( In charge of public HLIs in Senate), Dr. NGIRABEGA Jean de Dieu (In charge of Research in EAC), Mrs. UWIMANA Catherine(Vice Mayor of Social affairs  in Gakenke District and representative of Governor of Northern Province in Ceremony), Dr. Marie Christine GASINZIRWA who was  a  representative of Higher Education Council (HEC) and Guest of honor), Representative  of RDF and RNP in Gakenke District, Different religious community like Dominicaine( President and Secretary), Representative from different higher learning institutions such as University of Rwanda, Mount Kenya University-Rwanda, University of Gitwe, University of Kigali etc…, Representative from professional regulatory board including National  Council of Nurses and Midwives, representative of the Rwanda Association of Midwives, Representative of Rwanda Nurses and Midwives Union etc…

In the remarks of Vice Chancellor, he started by expressing that on that date, we are celebrating the third graduation. He continued by saying that from 2017 we generated and delivered on labor market of health system the 459 skilled and competent nurses.

He  explained the strategies  for  progression  which are clear vision , mission and core values of institute  associated with  recruitment  of competent staff  and ensure their regular continuous professional development  to understand well the training curriculum and using innovative approach  in its  implementation  for inspiring the learners(nursing and midwifery students)  with critical thinking spirit in front of any  clinical challenge faced   with aim to respond  on population  health and welfare related needs.

 

Indeed, RHIH administration keep the  monitoring and follow up of  the  students  wherever they go in different clinical placement and outcome of mechanism  is evidenced  by the rate of students success during licensing exams organized by National Council of Nurses and Midwives where in 2019  the success was at 99%   comparing to the previous graduations where the success of  the first cohort was at rate of 60% (2016) ,  93% for the second cohort in 2017 and 96% for the third cohort in 2018.

Because of good quality of teaching and education provided by RHIH, institution wishing to train nurses and midwives at Bachelor level (A0) as well as to initiate other health related program like Human Nutrition and dietetics at Bachelor level as well. The Vice-Chancellor expressed that the institution request is in final phase. He ended his remarks by thanking all developing partners who were contributing a big role in the development of RHIH from its historical perspective.

During the ceremony the entertainment was shown using traditional dancing and facilitated by RHIH Short Dance interlude and Performers used a Rwandan culture to dance.

The graduation  event was inspired by Mr.NTIRENGANYA Sylvestre( Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs and Research) who called  Mr. KARERA Eric( Head of  General Nursing  Department)  who therefore, called the name of the graduands and stand in front of  population(All participants) and After  Chancelor of RHIH confirm their qualification . It was a great celebration and congratulation of graduands who become immediately the graduate after being allowed to put their gown in head.

Without spending a lot of time, Mr. ABAZIMANA Denys (In charge of Academic quality assurance) facilitate the oat of being a good nurse by respecting all professionalism norms, rules and regulations.

Chairperson of National Council of Nurses and Midwives in his remark started by greetings and thanking all different categories of invitees. Where he thanks management /administration of RHIH for opportunity given to give a time and thanks to Government of Rwanda who provided the opportunities for further studies and thanks all graduates and their parents.

 

He recommended to all graduates  to continue for further studies and he explained that Government of Rwanda has established the all  academic   level  till PhD are available in Rwanda.

 

He continued by explaining the structure , function  ,duties , Mandates and responsibilities   of NCNN  toward  professions and population including but not limited to the protection of population health…

 

He encouraged all health professionals to keep updating their skills and knowledge because the world is in dynamism of Sciences, technology and innovation and the patient’s issues should be solved using the latest evidence based practice.  Council in collaboration with Ministry of Health and other developing partners from international level, have established the web based continuous professional development program. He encouraged everyone to register and get the free course accessibility from your respective working place.

He ended by thanking RHIH administration, the quality of education is expressing itself  because of rate of success as stated previously by representative of the institute and  he request the  RHIH to keep in enhancing the positive  partnership  with stakeholders  in order to ensure  good service  that offered to the population.

The two best students were Jean Paul NDICUNGUYE and Francoise TUYISHIME were awarded by   Dr. Marie Christine GASINZIRWA and Chancellor of RHIH respectively.

In the remarks offered by graduates representative, He explained a long journey undertaken by graduates from starting in first year; He requested all present members particularly RHIH  to maintain and advance more the institutes’ achievement  for better benefits of the young brother and sisters  who are studying in RHIH as well as future generations. Also, he requested all public and private institutions in health to give them the job   and finally, he requested the High Education Council (HEC) to speeding up quickly the RHIH request to train the health professionals at Bachelor level.

Senator Prof. Cyprien NIYOMUGABO started by explain  the six  duties and responsibilities of Senate   and  He appreciated RHIH  due to respecting one norm of gender balance and goes even beyond where more than 90% of graduates are female. He ensured all participants that Senate come to hear from the population needs for further advocacy. He loved a culture of having hygiene especially hand washing for fight against Corona Virus among populations as it has been demonstrated during this ceremony and we should keep practicing  this good behavior once we will go back at home and encouraging others to do the same.

The speech from Mrs. Catherine UWIMANA (Vice-mayor of social affairs in Gakenke District) who represented Mr. Jean -Marie Vianney GATABAZI (Governor of Northern Province) initiated her talk by thanking all graduates for their sacrifice in studying well and she requested them to play a valuable role in building a safety and healthier nation through performing properly the duties and responsibilities that will be assigned to them.

She reminded that health professionals particularly nurses, have primary responsibility   to promote the population health as well as ensuring a good health of Rwandan. She expressed that Catholic Church and Government are twin and they help from each other in many domains. She concluded by thanking the HEC for advancing the quality of education across the nation and reminding the graduates that the journey is till long and she requested them to take care of the patients for better outcomes and development at large.

Archbishop of Kigali and Chancellor of RHIH in his speech, announced the purpose of starting Ruli higher institute of health and expected outcome expressed in rate of students success at their completion with high quality of education with excellent knowledge and skills of nurses will gain as it will be expressed also on labor market where they will show a good competition in whatever they will do in their scope of nursing. He started also that the first cohort in midwifery is level two  and they are being well trained in order to contribute  in reduction of maternal child mortality and morbidity rate  by promoting reproductive health among  Rwandan population and beyond for achieving sustainable development goals targeted by Rwanda.  He focused on customer care and recommend all RHIH students  should play  a role model as typical exemplary in implementation of its norms as it has been found that fail  to provide the customer care to the patient at first contact  usually lead to  severity(painful)  of  the disease that they suffer from.

The RHIH was created in order to promote the possession of sustainable health in all aspects. He come back on corporal hygiene and spirit hygiene where everyone were requested to help from each other for achieving the well- being of community. He gave thanks to Dr. NGIRABEGA Jean de Dieu and Sister Dominicanes for their fundamental roles played in initiating the creation of institute. He congratulated the academic and RHIH staff at large for quality of education and victory of success at good rate and explained that the target is 100%.  He emphasized that RHIH has a high hope that the request of getting  Bachelor is advancing well and soon we will start to train  health professionals at Bachelor level.

He raised some challenges that the population of Ruli and Gakenke district as well as RHIH faced including but not limited to lack of macadamized road and proper sufficient water to all population.

He thanked the good partnership between different authorities from both public and private toward the development of institute and told the graduands who became graduate that from now, they are considered as nurses from our society and community. He gave thanks to all lecturers at different levels who contribute in training the nurses and midwifery both theories and practice.

For having a good health for  productivity in economy of a country…She came back on wishes raised by representative of  students such as to fight against malnutrition, Active in  Physical activity, Taking sufficient rest as well as  praying should be see the strategies to be used  for their implementation in Ruli sector and beyond and RHIH should be among  the model to lead that exercise for good health  and better outcome  for our population and therefore SDG and Rwanda Vision 2050 will be reached.
