A VISIT OF HONORABLE MINISTER OF STATE FOR PRIMARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION AT MINISTRY OF EDUCATION

Hon. Minister of State at Ministry of Education visited Ruli Higher Institute of Health (RHIH) Sainte Rose de Lima and appreciated the preparedness done for school re-opening during COVID19 pandemic.

Campus Tour by Guest of honor, Honorable Gaspard TWAGIRAYEZU Minister of State for Primary and Secondary Education at Ministry of Education, with Dr. Innocent DUSHIMIYIMANA (Fr.) ,Vice chancellor of RHIH, Mr. NZAMWITA Déogratias , Mayor of Gakenke District , Mr. NIZEYIMANA JMV (Executive Secretary Ruli Sector).

On Friday, 16/10/2020, Honorable Gaspard TWAGIRAYEZU, Minister of State for Primary and Secondary Education in Ministry of Education (MINEDUC), Mr. NZAMWITA Déogratias, Mayor of Gakenke District and Local authorities represented by Executive Secretary of Ruli Sector, have visited Ruli Higher Institute of Health (RHIH). On their arrival, they were warm welcomed by Dr. Innocent DUSHIMIYIMANA (Fr.) ,Vice chancellor of RHIH and Mr. NTIRENGANYA Sylvestre, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs and Research at RHIH. Prior to all activities, the trained members of COVID-19 Task Force at RHIH oriented them on new procedures adopted within the institute to fight against COVID-19 pandemic spreading include but not limited to frequently hand washing and temperature screening by using Thermo flash thermometer. Dr. Innocent DUSHIMIYIMANA (Fr.), Vice chancellor of RHIH, in his remark, appreciates their choice of coming in RHIH environment to see the functionality and infrastructure that are in place for facilitating the good academic performance of students in their daily learning activities for becoming a competent workforce who are needed in labor market of health care system in Rwanda and abroad. He continued his speech by introducing the RHIH in generally, to the guest of honor. The package of information provided including historical perspective of the institute, academic programs offered by institute and the role of the institute to surrounding community. Moreover, Vice Chancellor informed the Hon. Minister that the academic performance in end cycle exam and National licensing professional examination prepared by Rwanda National Council of Nurses and Midwives was 100% of students’ success in last academic year. He explained a way forward of Institute toward bright future by reaching vision and mission of RHIH including the training of nurses and midwives to Bachelor level and having Bachelor program in other field like Human nutrition and dietetics and in other health professionals. The guest of honor and other delegates, took time to carry out a campus tour to see the trend of readiness regarding the preparedness of receiving the second year and third year students with respecting the contents of health guidelines for school reopening.

He visited skills laboratory of both nursing department and midwifery department. He was very satisfied by full explanation provided by academic staff on different stations and package of training offered to the students during practical session before going in practice at healthcare facilities. In skills lab of midwives, they explain step by step the mother health process, since her conception, antenatal care visit, delivery, post-partum care and Family planning was taken into attention and most present visitors asked many questions related to natural and modern methods.

They visited the RHIH Computer laboratory for seeing the existing learning facilities in place for ICT utilization for academic purpose and operational plan in place for COVID-19 prevention including clear schedule of Visiting ICT on appointment basis through booking, norms of distancing respected between two computers, Availability of strong wireless in Garden of school where every student have connected laptop, disinfection procedure after Computer lab utilization before receiving a new team etc…

They visited the classroom and other sensitive places including Library….to see the new restructure done for complying to current Preventive measures of pandemic and therefore, He appreciated all different visited places within the institute.

In his remark, Honorable Gaspard TWAGIRAYEZU appreciated the warm welcome rendered to him in Gakenke District and appreciate the significance of changes done to RHIH organization, infrastructure, environment for overcoming the requirement to be complied in Higher learning institution for resuming their academic activities with respecting norms of COVID-19 prevention. Furthermore, he appreciated the knowledge and skills transferred to the students during their studies as evidenced by high rate of success during practical licensing examination offered by their respective professional regulatory bodies as mentioned previously by Vice chancellor of RHIH. Due to good practice seen in institute, he committed himself to talk the good example played by RHIH as a role model in front of cabinet and other competent related authorities by encouraging them to come for visit and bringing their children to study in the RHIH.
